Data Deletion Instructions

At SmartPik, we respect your right to control your personal information. This page explains exactly how to request the deletion of your data from our systems, how long it takes, and what we are legally required to keep.

If you only want to opt out of marketing or ads (but keep your order history), please email us at support@smartpikbd.com with the subject “Unsubscribe from marketing” — that is a different and faster process than full data deletion.

What you can have deleted

When you submit a Data Deletion Request, we will delete the following information about you from our active systems:

  • Your name, phone number, and delivery address from our customer database
  • Your Facebook, Instagram, or WhatsApp conversation history with us
  • Your account on smartpikbd.com (if you created one)
  • Your data in our marketing audiences (Meta Custom Audiences, Google Customer Match)
  • Any photos or files you sent us
  • Email correspondence with us

What we cannot delete

Bangladesh tax and accounting law requires us to retain certain transactional records for at least 7 years. This means the following data cannot be fully deleted until the legal retention period has passed:

  • Invoice and order records (name, amount, products, date) — but we will anonymise as much as legally possible
  • Records relating to disputes, refunds, or fraud
  • Records we are required to keep by a court order or government request

We will tell you exactly what we cannot delete when we process your request.

How to submit a Data Deletion Request

Step 1. Send an email to support@smartpikbd.com

Step 2. Use the exact subject line: Data Deletion Request

Step 3. Include the following information in the email body so we can find your records:

  • Your full name (as used when you ordered)
  • The phone number you used
  • Your Facebook profile name (if you messaged us on Messenger)
  • Your Instagram handle (if you messaged us on Instagram)
  • Your WhatsApp number (if you messaged us on WhatsApp)
  • The approximate date of your last order or message (month and year is fine)
  • A short note saying you want all your data deleted

You do not need to include all of the above — only what applies to you. The more you include, the faster we can find and remove your records.

Step 4. Send the email from an address you can confirm. If we have a phone number or Messenger account on file for you, we may contact you on that channel to verify the request is genuinely from you (this is to protect you from someone else trying to delete your account without your permission).

What happens after you send the request

  1. Within 3 working days: we will confirm receipt of your request by replying to your email.
  2. Within 7 working days: we will verify your identity (usually by checking the phone number or Messenger profile against our records).
  3. Within 30 days from your original request: we will complete the deletion and send you a confirmation email telling you exactly what was deleted and what was retained for legal reasons.

Deletion of Facebook / Instagram Messenger data specifically

If you want to delete just your Messenger or Instagram conversation history with SmartPik (without affecting your order records), please mention this in your email. We can:

  • Delete the conversation thread from our customer support system
  • Remove you from any Facebook Custom Audience built from Messenger engagement
  • Mark your Page-Scoped User ID for deletion in our records

Please note that Meta also retains a copy of the conversation on its own servers under its own policies. To delete the Meta-side copy, you can use Facebook’s own data deletion tools at:

  • Facebook: Settings → Your Facebook Information → Delete Your Account and Information
  • Instagram: Settings → Help → Help Center → Managing Your Account → Delete Your Account
  • Messenger: open the conversation → tap and hold a message → Remove → Unsend for everyone

Children’s data

If you believe your child under 13 has shared personal information with us, please email support@smartpikbd.com with the subject “Child Data Deletion Request” and we will treat it as urgent. We aim to complete deletion of children’s data within 7 days.

If we cannot delete your data

In rare cases, we may not be able to delete your data — for example, if there is an active dispute, an ongoing fraud investigation, or a legal order requiring us to keep it. If that happens, we will explain to you exactly why, what we are keeping, and how long until it can be deleted.
